SOPA Restaurant is a vibrant culinary destination in downtown Pembroke, where bold, soulful flavours meet a deeply personal story.

Founded by chef and entrepreneur Luiana Mendes, SOPA brings together the rich culinary traditions of Portugal and Angola, offering a unique experience in the heart of the Ottawa Valley.

Our History​

How it all started

Opened in 2025, SOPA was born from Luiana’s vision to create food that reflects identity, migration, and connection. After growing up in Portugal, she refined her craft in New York City at the French Culinary Institute, working in fast-paced kitchens such as L’Express Bistro and later with Tomkats Catering, the leading catering company for the Film industry in NYC.

After relocating to Pembroke during COVID, she began building a restaurant that would honour her African grandmother, Maria Laura, whose legacy lives on in every dish.
